How to Deal with Jet Lag

Few things are more difficult on a trip than dealing with a case of jet lag. The more time zones you cross, the more time it usually takes for your body to adjust to a new sleep schedule. And you can find yourself extremely exhausted in the middle of the day when your body is used to being asleep.

There are a few things you can do before and during your trip to help you deal with jet lag.

Before your trip, if possible, you can adjust your sleep schedule in increments, little by little. This will help once you arrive at your destination.

During your journey, drink plenty of water and limit the amount of alcohol and caffeine you intake. Eat light meals and get some sleep on the airplane. Some people use melatonin to help them sleep. (Please consult with your doctor before taking any medication.) Having a good travel pillow will greatly help you get restorative sleep while you travel!

When you arrive at your destination, try to immediately stick to a normal sleep schedule. It may still take a few days to feel more awake, but it will happen!
