One of the many necessary tasks while travelling and wandering is keeping our clothes clean. It is wonderful when we have access to electric washing machines and dryers. However, off the beaten track, and far from western ways of life, things can be a little more complicated, but not impossible.
Sometimes, if a few days at a hotel or resort is part of your itinerary, there may be a same-day or next-day laundry service available. These services are often well worth the price and time it takes instead of washing and hang-drying your clothes yourself. In humid environments, often it can take a full day or more for your clothes to hang-dry. Another option is an independent laundry service. These services differ greatly in each country. Ask your host or search the internet for available options.
Yet, if you must wash and dry your laundry yourself, here are a few helpful tips and items that can make this task easier.
Dirty Laundry Travel Bag
Be sure to have designated a dirty laundry travel bag for your dirty clothes in-between washing. We carry two dirty laundry bags, one for clothes we can wear again, such as trousers and shirts, and one for clothes we need to wash before using again, such as undergarments.
Laundry Detergent Sheets
Laundry detergent sheets are a great way to wash your dirty clothes yourself in a sink, large bowl, or bathtub. They are lightweight, liquid-free, and easy to carry in your luggage. Just dissolve one or two laundry detergent sheets with water for each load of laundry you wash.
Travel Clothesline
A travel clothesline is a convenient and portable way to hang-dry your washed clothes, wet towels, or hang any items that need to be hung up in your room.
Wet Bags
Waterproof wet bags are very useful to transport wet beach clothes and towels, or clean washed clothes from one location to another that have not yet dried. When transporting wet items in your luggage, a waterproof wet bag will protect your other dry items from getting wet.
Stain Remover
When you spill something on your clothes, having a travel stain remover will help prevent the stain from setting before you are able to do laundry.
Wrinkle Release Anti-Static Spray
Do you have any items of clothing that tend to wrinkle while traveling? Do your clothes tend to have an issue with static? A travel-sized wrinkle release anti-static spray is a quick and convenient way to release those wrinkles and prevent static build-up! If necessary, you can transfer these sprays into smaller spray bottles for travel.
In addition, packing a few small 3 or 4 gallon plastic garbage bags may help keep wet or dirty clothes separate from clean and dry clothes. Among a number of other uses, such as wrapping dirty shoes in your luggage, they can be used for garbage too! ๐
