In this electronic age, we are all often attached to our devices, whether phones, tablets, smartwatches, etc. These devices are especially useful when traveling. Some airlines accept boarding passes by way of a QR code on our phones or smartwatches. We can get real-time directions using our personal GPS app. We can order an Uber, have food delivered, and find out the hours our favorite museum is open. Of course, these devices are a great asset, as long as they are charged! Always remember to bring your personal charging cables for all your devices. Write them down on the last-minute packing items list you create before you travel. Below are a few useful suggestions and products to help you keep your devices charged while traveling and when in foreign locations.
We have also included some other helpful electronic devices while wandering.
Power Banks
For those times when you don’t have access to an outlet, a portable charger, also known as a power bank, can help keep your devices charged. You should always keep some sort of power bank on your person in case of emergencies. We recommend a portable solar charger.
Please be aware that power banks must be kept in your carry-on luggage when on an airplane. Many power banks contain lithium batteries that can catch fire if damaged or overheating. While this is rare, it is easier to put out a fire in the passenger cabin of an airplane rather than in the cargo hold.
Travel Adapters and Converters
When traveling to a foreign country, be sure to research and bring the correct travel adapter and/or converter. Some countries run on 100-120 volts, some on 220-240 volts. For devices and chargers that are not dual voltage rated, that is, that cannot run or charge on 100-240 volts (V), and 50 to 60 Hertz (Hz), it is best to purchase a travel converter or transformer.
Here are a couple of websites to help you determine which travel adapter and/or converter you will need:

Cameras
While most people are content to use the camera on their smartphone to take photos, some still prefer a separate digital camera to get those perfect shots! Some digital cameras have more unique features than smartphone cameras. Also, using a separate digital camera can help prevent your smartphone from overheating in warm climates when you’re taking a lot of photos and videos. Also, some digital cameras are made to work underwater.
White Noise Machine
If you have trouble sleeping, or will be in a noisy city, having a portable white noise machine can help you have a better night’s sleep.
Hairdryers and Curling Irons
Although we understand that some may feel they cannot do without their personal hairdryer or curling iron or other such devices, please know that many, if not most, hotels and even some Airbnbs and guesthouses include a hairdryer. Other hair styling tools can often be purchased when you arrive at your foreign destination. And, if you don’t want to bring it home, you can always give it away to someone before you leave. If you must bring your own tools, please research whether or not you will need a travel power converter and how much wattage you will need.
