Often the traveling part of traveling is the most uncomfortable and exhausting. We must often endure long waits, cramped spaces, loud environments and feeling unwell. Here are a few suggestions and items that might help the time pass more comfortably and less tiring.

Travel Pillow

The right travel pillow can make napping and sleeping while you travel more comfortable and productive. Having your neck supported in the correct position can make your sleep much more restorative and refreshing. And, of course, there is the craze about using your pillow cover as a way to pack extra clothes and other items for travel! However, you will not regret choosing a pillow that helps you sleep more comfortably over one that allows you to pack more clothes.

Travel Blanket

Often on planes, trains, and buses, when the air conditioning system is too cold, a good, lightweight travel blanket can make all the difference in enjoying your ride. The right travel blanket can double as a beach blanket or be used to transport fragile souvenirs back home.

Sleeping Mask

A blackout sleeping mask can help you have a more relaxing, less stimulating snooze.

Ear Plugs

A good pair of ear plugs can help block out unwanted noise and help you have a less interruptive sleep or rest.

Airplane Foot Rest

An airplane foot rest can help relieve pain and swelling in your feet while traveling in cramped airplane seats.

Motion-Sickness and Anxiety Prevention and Treatment

Many of us suffer from motion-sickness or anxiety while traveling. Over-the-counter medicines such as Dramamine or motion-sickness patches are very useful for relatively severe cases of motion-sickness. Others find anti-nausea electrode stimulators (which we find very helpful!), motion-sickness relief oils, motion-sickness wristbands, ginger or peppermint candies, or a combination thereof, as helpful prevention and treatment of motion-sickness while traveling. Some of these items also help with anxiety while traveling, along with MotionEaze, CalmiGo, Poy-Sian Nasal Inhaler, lavender and other essential oils or lavender chapstick.

Compression Socks

It is well-documented that compression socks help keep your blood flowing and reduce swelling when sitting for long periods of time, thereby reducing the risk of developing blood clots. They are essential on any flight.

Snacks

Keep yourself energized with the right snacks while you travel. Remember to carry napkins and plastic cutlery if needed. And chewing gum and floss picks are a great way to clean your teeth when you don’t have the ability to brush your teeth while traveling.

Water and Electrolytes

Keep yourself well-hydrated throughout your trip. Please keep in mind that it is well-documented that consuming alcoholic drinks while flying can cause blood-oxygen and heart issues, even in healthy people. Also, carbonated drinks can cause bloating and other stomach issues. And many of these drinks actually dehydrate the body. The best way to keep yourself well-hydrated is water. Also, some use powdered electrolytes in their water for extra energy.

Of course, we know that you cannot bring a filled water bottle through security. However, have you considered purchasing a small reusable water bottle? Many airports have water filling stations or water fountains that you can use to refill your small reusable water bottle.

Don’t assume you will have a Seatback TV Screen!

Not all flights or airlines provide a personal entertainment screen on the back of the seat in front of you. In fact, it is best to assume that a personal screen will not be provided. Be prepared with your own downloaded videos or music on your personal device, along with noise-canceling headphones.

Here are a few ways to make it easier to watch videos on your mobile/cell phone.
