Toiletries can easily be among the heavier items we carry in our luggage, not to mention the restrictions on carrying liquids in our carry-on luggage. Over the years, we have found a number of tips and products that help lighten the load.
Repackaging Liquids
One tip that has helped us many times is repackaging the liquids we want to take with us into smaller one ounce containers. Here are a few containers that help in that process. Don’t forget to use a Sharpie to write on each container what it holds! 😉

Kitsch Soap Bars
Kitsch Soap Bars are a great way to travel with lighter, liquid-free shampoo and conditioner, as well as body soap and shaving cream! And they work great too!
Soap Bar Holders
Over the years, we have tried out many so-called leak-proof soap bar holders for our Kitsch Soap Bars. Most are not truly leak-proof or are too big and bulky for the size of the bars. So, we’ve opted to purchase one that is the right compact size for the soap bar, and we put it in a small ZipLoc bag for waterproofing. Please let us know if you find a better, compact, truly waterproof alternative! We’ve included some other options as well.
Compressed Face Towels
Compressed face towels are a great way to keep your daily face washing routine sanitary when doing laundry regularly is not an option.
Compressed Body Towels
Compressed body towels are a useful way to easily transport a body towel while traveling. They can be used for drying yourself after bathing, or at the beach, or cut up and used as a washcloth for bathing. Please note that, before using the body towels for drying, you must use water to open them up and then air dry them.
Lens Wipes
Lens wipes are a handy way to clean your glasses or any electronic devices you are taking with you on your trip.
Hand Sanitizer
After a pandemic, we are all familiar with the benefits of having hand sanitizer with us at all times! Having a small travel size bottle in your day pack is useful for all those times you will need it! 😉
Shower Shoes
Among your other shower toiletries, don’t forget to bring waterproof shower shoes. You may find them useful when you encounter showers with questionable cleanliness, when the shower is open to the rest of the bathroom near or over the toilet, or you can even use them at the beach or other places in your wanders.
